Top 10 Cruise Lines For Long Voyages
The great news for those of you in a similar boat, pun intended, is that there are plenty of opportunities to book longer itineraries and there are a few cruise lines who really excel at offering itineraries of around a month in length.
Sadly, there are a few reasons as to why I cannot do such a cruise at the moment but if you the budget and the time, these are what I believe to be the top 10 cruise lines for taking a longer cruise., which for the purposes of this list, I am using itineraries of 22 nights or longer.
This list is based on the variety of longer itineraries offered, how the line makes the most of longer itineraries and as is always the case, my personnel thoughts on the lines.
Look out for their Grand Adventures for some of their more port intensive, longer cruises.
I should also say, that I am not including lines where you need to book your own back-to-back cruises to make up a longer cruise but if a line sell a back-to-back cruise as a separate itinerary, I am counting it.
Our Top 10 Cruise Lines For Long Voyages

Princess Cruises
One of the biggest things that puts of some cruisers from doing a longer itinerary is the thought of getting bored and running out of things to do on the ship.
There are a few ways to counter that including picking a port intensive itinerary, choosing a journey with a good variety of different types of ports and sailing onboard a large ship.
The line that arguably offers all of that and the biggest range of ships and itineraries offering it all is the Princess cruise line.
It should be said that as a mainstream line, the majority of their longer cruises are back-to-back ones, but they are arguably the best at packaging them up and tend to offer those itineraries as a separate one to simply booking two or more separate itineraries.
Onboard, they also provide lots to make each leg of the itinerary separate including cruising different places on one leg to the next, having different entertainment and shows and you can often even get lecturers giving talks on the different places you visit- so you don’t need to put in the extra effort of researching the numerous ports you will visit.

Oceania Cruises
Oceania’s ships often don’t have a homeport, and they just keep moving around the world which often makes it easy for those wanting a longer cruise as you can often pick and choose the length you want.
Their smaller ships, but still bigger than other more luxurious lines, can visit ports larger ones cannot and you often get overnight stays in port to really make the most of your time in a destination- plus if you are struggling to sleep at sea, you can get a good night’s rest!

Silversea Cruises
Silversea Cruises offer a luxury getaway and that maybe off putting to some cruises, but it does help to give a more relaxed and calmer atmosphere onboard which is ideal for a longer cruise when even the fittest of us need some down time.
They are another small ship live but they are well-known for visiting more out of the way destinations and for offering more expedition style of getaways to places such as Antarctica, the Arctic, the Galapagos and even the Amazon River.
With the chance for new experiences everyday of your getaway, their more adventurous style of cruising really appeals to me and would be ideal for a longer getaway, but it does come at a cost.

Seabourn
Seabourn are a luxury line that offers small ships that can visit many ports larger ships cannot and they use that to their advantage to offer itineraries full of enrichment and culture.
The line also offers an all-inclusive offering which whilst having a high initial cost, it does make it easy to budget for a long trip away as there is little to pay for once you set off.

Azamara Cruises
Azamara offer boutique cruise ship which can often lead to a lack of things to do on a longer getaway, but they combat that with their Azamazing Evenings. Where the ship stays in port overnight and guests have an experience to remember on shore.
These are usually tailed to where you are visiting to give you a immersive experience where you see the history and culture of the local region you are visiting and whilst it is a great reason to cruise with the line regularly, on a long getaway it was really break up the journey.

Holland America Line
Holland America are a premium line that offer large, modern ships that often take you to places such as the Caribbean and the Mediterranean on a regular 7-14 night cruise.
They do however offer a decent range of longer itineraries which first came to my attention a few years back when researching cruises to Antarctica and seeing the long trip they offer around South America.
If you are wanting large ships, a premium service and still have to chance to visit more remote places and trips with a sense of adventure about them, they are a great option.

Cunard
When you saw the title of this list, the chances are that if a line came to mind, it was Cunard.
Although they do offer a much more rounded offering nowadays, the line is famed for 3 different types of trans-Atlantic’s, World Cruises and ultra-long repositioning routes and it is the latter two that are of interest to this list.
A World Cruise speaks for itself, but it is there long-range repositioning routes that is the reason they are on this list as they offer some incredible adventures including sailing between the UK and Asia as well as partial World Cruises between Europe and Australia.

Fred Olsen
Fred Olsen offers a tradition style of cruising, so you are not going to get waterparks, rollercoasters and ice shows on their smaller ships, but you are going to get a calmer cruise that takes in lots of great destinations.
They offer a wide range of longer cruisers that are usually repositioning routes and that are port intensive but one of the highlights of their itineraries for me is the number of overnight stays you get to really enjoy your time in a port without the constraints of an all-aboard time.

Hurtigruten Expeditions
Hurtigruten Expeditions, or simply HX as they are branded, use the knowledge of the Hurtigruten line and there decades of offering sailing along the Norwegian coastline, coupled with their move into expedition cruising to bring you some of the most unique itineraries out there.
Using modern ships that allow you to reach many places other ships cannot, their expedition style cruises allow you to get up close and personnel to some parts of the world that are seemingly off limits.
With onboard zodiacs to take you to remote landings and onboard science labs to allow you to gain an understanding of the regions you visit, the polar experts of Hurtigruten Expeditions allow for long explorations that you are constantly learning and exploring on.

Costa Cruises
Costa are an Italian line that are owned by the Carnival Corporation, and they are a bit of an outlier on this list as they tend to mostly operate out of Mediterranean ports and sail regular length cruises around the Med.
They do have a growing interest in the Middle East and they have been known to offer World Cruises but the reason that I have placed them on this list is there cruises between Europe and the Middle East that instead of going through the Suez Canal, sail right around the Cape of Good Hope, past the Horn of Africa and to the Middle East.
Not only is that a great adventure in its own right but you get to do it onboard a huge, modern cruise ship and it is one of the best value getaways on the market.
