They are the cruise alternative of an airline, so whilst many may be part of the same family (such as the Carnival Corporation, the Royal Caribbean Group, Tui Cruises or Norwegian Cruise Holidays), each are different.
Some are global brands that operate all around the world and cater for people of any nationality whilst some will have a focus on a region or country (such as P&O in the UK, Costa in Italy or AIDA in Germany).
There is often some confusion by those new to the industry between cruise lines, ferry line and passenger lines and whilst there are plenty of similarities between the 3, there are also plenty of differences.
