Top 10 A Coruna Shore Excursions
A Coruna, to give it its traditional Galician name, or La Coruna as it is often referred to in Castilian, is a fantastic city that is easy to explore on your own due to a city centre cruise terminal.
One issue it does suffer from however is that it is a vast city and that can make it difficult for some to get around it but thankfully there are plenty of options for those wanting to see all that A Coruna has to offer but don’t want to walk to much or who have mobility issues.
Something else that can make plenty of cruisers look for excursions when visiting the port is the fact that many cruise lines either call the port Santiago de Compostela or A Coruna for Santiago de Compostela.
That often puts in mind that A Coruna should be overlooked, and you should head out on tour when there, which really isn’t the case.
No matter why you want to book a shore excursion in La Coruna, there are lots of options for those wanting to do so.
But just what are the top 10 La Coruna shore excursions? That is just what I answer in this list, which is based on my experience of visiting the port on a cruise holiday and the research I did before visiting there.
Shore Excursions In A Coruna
Santiago de Compostela On Your Own
If you are wanting to visit Santiago de Compostela and love to simply walk around and see what you come across, choosing a on your own shorex is the way to go.
These do tend to be the sort of excursions I personally choose as you simply hop on a motorcoach from the terminal and then head to where you want to explore.
Once you get there, you have a time to be back at the coach by and other than that, you can do what you want.
Santiago de Compostela Guided Tour
If you are wanting to head to the nearby Santiago de Compostela and prefer to have a guided tour when visiting a city for the first time, there are lots of options to do just that from A Coruna.
After boarding your motorcoach, you head in land to the historic capital city of Galicia to explore its numerous historical buildings, parks, squares and other areas of interest.
City Drive and Guided Walk
As mentioned, exploring somewhere such as A Coruna can often mean lots of walking, especially if you want to head to the outskirts of town and over to the huge Riazor Beach.
It can often be a rush to do everything you want, as there is so much on offer, and if you are short of time whilst in the city, a great option can be to take a panoramic coach tour around the outskirts of the city and then a guided walk of the old town.
Culinary Tour Of A Coruna
A big draw for some cruisers to somewhere such as Galicia is the chance to enjoy it mouth-watering cuisine.
It can be daunting however to head out to try the regions food on your own as you don’t know where best to eat and if you are not fluent in Spanish, you often end up in a tourist trap.
To make sure you get a good variety of food and don’t get ripped off or inauthentic food, a guided food tour of A Coruna could be the ideal option.
Old Town Guided Walk
The old town of A Coruna is not the biggest, especially by the standards of Spanish cities, but there is still lots to take in.
As you walk around it, you will see many impressive buildings, a number of statues and lots of small streets which you are never quite sure if they are worth going down or not.
To make sure you don’t walk any more than you need to and that you also have a understanding of what you are looking at, it can be the best option to head out on a guided tour, where a local expert takes you around all you need to see and gives you a full history of the buildings and statues along the way.
Galicia Tour
If you have already visited A Coruna before, or you simply want to head away from the crowds, a visit to the nearby city of Ferrol and the rest of the Galician region could be for you.
Galicia has lots of natural beauty, many great beaches and the city of Ferrol is full of history and must see sights to make for a great day of exploration.
Lugo Visit
Lugo, around an hour away from A Coruna, is a great place to visit for those with a love of history as the it was an important city during the Roman era.
The walled city still has a feeling of been in the past and is one of the best examples of a Roman city in northern Spain.
Your visit will allow you to take in 3 UNESCO World Heritage Sites and a beautiful cathedral.
Tuk Tuk Tour
If you want to see the best of A Coruna and have some fun whilst doing so, a Tuk Tuk tour can be the way to go.
The open nature of the Tuk Tuk cab gives an element of danger to things and certainly can make it more interesting when compared to a taxi tour or a coach tour but one of the best things for me is that you can easily pull over, jump out, takes some photos and carry on again.
Self-Guided Tapas Tour
This one is a bit of an outlier, as its an excursion you do on your own, which may sound strange, but its possible to download an app that tracks you as you walk around the city, shows you where to go and takes you to some of the best Tapas hot spots in the city.
It then explains what’s on offer and why you should try it, basically you have a guided tour of the best tapas in A Coruna without the need to follow a group or a guide.
A Coruna Hop-On-Hop-Off Bus
A Hop Off Hop On tour bus allows you to have a guided tour of a city, choose when and where you get off to explore, giving you a mix of guided tour and explore on your own experience.
For my visit to the city, there was a lack of buses leaving them crowded which does make it difficult to get on and off when you want and that is why it is so low ranked on this list- but if they have sorted those issues, it is a great option.
La Coruna Shorex
If you are wanting to enjoy a A Coruna Shorex experience, you can as there are lots of great options including those featured on this page.
