For me, cruising is all about the destinations and whilst round trips can bring great getaways, repositioning routes tend to mean you get more variety and often they are more port intensive, another personnel favourite of mine.

Cunard

Cunard just have to top a list such as this one as it will be the line so many associated with this type of cruise, thanks to its traditional Southampton to New York trans-Atlantic route which still operates at different times through the year via the lines last remaining liner, the Queen Mary 2.

It’s not just that route that they operate however, as all of the ships in their fleet offer opportunities to start and end your adventure in different ports and when you add in all of the legs of their World Cruise you can opt to take and they offer one of the widest ranges of repositioning routes all over the globe.

They also offer great variety when it comes to the length of their itineraries with every from mini cruises between Southampton to Hamburg to 45 nighters between Southampton and Sydney on offer.

Oceania Cruises

Oceania Cruises are a luxury line, who operate smaller ships and that allows them to visit some cruise ports that others on this cannot do.

With that said, they still have ships that are larger than other luxury cruise lines and that can make them the perfect choice for those who still want variety on their ship, but who want the more luxurious experience.

Whilst there are a few similar lines out there, Oceania operate one of the larger fleets for such lines and that, when coupled with the volume of repositioning cruises they offers allows you to pretty much choose to visit anywhere on earth that you want to.

All of that does come at a cost of course, but with incredible food, destination-focussed routes, great service and an all-inclusive offering, it can be great value.

Princess Cruises

Princess offer that sweet spot for cruisers who love the brand as they are a mainstream line, with large ships but they offer a premium service that puts them above some other mainstream lines.

They also have one of the largest fleets at sea and a wide range of ship size and shape, which they use to their advantage to offer lots of repositioning opportunities.

One of the big plusses for the line is also that they often put repositioning itineraries one after another, so you can do back to back repo cruises and just keep sailing before flying home.

Regent Seven Seas

Regent Seven Seas a luxury cruise line who may not be an option for most cruisers but if you have the funds to cruise with them, the possibilities are almost endless.

There fleet of ships sail across the globe and are seemingly constantly on the go- so with no real home ports, they just keep going from region to region and country to country.

That makes them perfect for this list and many of their itineraries are repositioning ones and to places few other lines head.

Azamara Cruises

Azamara are another luxury cruise line who ships just keep going and never really visit the same port more than once in any given month.

If you want to sail with them around Europe, you can, if you want to sail around Africa, you can, if you want to sail around Australia, you can if you want to sail the globe with them- well I’m sure you get it by now, you can.

Silversea Cruises

When it comes to Silversea, they, like so many of the luxury lines on this list, offer a wide variety of repositioning cruises in terms of where they visit, but they also offer a wide variety of cruise lengths.

They use a large fleet of smaller cruise ships to be able to visit ports many others cannot visit and with an all inclusive offering, you can have a great adventure where you get to really experience each port.

Celebrity Cruises

Celebrity are one of my favourite cruise lines and they are a line I have done a number of repositioning cruises onboard, so it is not to surprisingly that they feature on a list such as this one.

Away from my personal thoughts on the line, they do deserve the place on the list thanks to the wide range of opportunities they offer.

Usually for a mainstream line, it isn’t just their smaller and older ships that offer positioning routes as even their large modern ones offer the chance to take one.

Holland America Line

Holland America offer a great range of repositioning cruises in Europe and especially in Northern Europe, so if that is the area you want to explore, they could be the perfect line for you.

They do offer options in North America and the Med as well for those looking for a premium experience blending North American and Dutch cruising philosophies.

MSC Cruises

MSC Cruises have one of the largest fleets of any line and offer a low budget getaway- so if you are looking to save money on your next repo cruise, they are arguably the line to look at.

As a Swiss based, Italian line, it will perhaps be not too much of a surprise that most of their offerings are in the Med but they do offer options for further afield adventures especially in the Middle East and Transatlantic.

Norwegian Cruise Line

Norwegian are a line that I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with as there is lots about their offering I love and, well, lots I hate.

I have done repositioning cruises with them and really enjoyed it, so they had to feature on this list, but they do deserve it outside of my history with them.

They do offer a wide range of repositioning routes and their Extraordinary Journeys’ branded getaways visit many places other mainstream lines don’t.
