Liverpool Cruise Port
The port of Liverpool is famous port on the River Mersey in the North West of England that became famous as a
cruise port during the heyday of the liners where transatlantic ships set sail for New York.
The port of Liverpool itself is laid out using a dock system that stretches for over 7 miles from Brunswick Dock in Liverpool itself through to Seaforth Dock in Seaforth whilst the port also includes Birkenhead Docks across the river from the city.
Whilst the port is nowadays mostly used for container ships, Liverpool is also a popular port for
cruise ships to call into and now there is a growing number of cruises which start holidays from Liverpool.
Up until recently, cruise ships calling into the port of Liverpool used the Langton Docks which left them subject to tides for departures and arrivals but since 2008, cruise ships have used a purpose built cruise terminal at Pier Head. This moved has allowed more and more ships to start and end their trips at Liverpool.
