Portsmouth Cruise Port

Portsmouth Cruise Port
The Port of Portsmouth is a mostly ferry port located on Portsea Island in the county of Hampshire on the South Coast of England. Due to the ports location near to Southampton, it is often overlooked as a departure point for cruise operators but there are still a small number of cruise lines choosing the port. It is mostly smaller and older ships or luxury brands operating out of Portsmouth which does make the port a good alternative for the more mass market ships operating out of Southampton. The port has modern facilities capable of facilitating numerous cruise ferries that operate daily from the port and whilst the port is also capable of berthing small and medium sized cruise ships, there are plans for expansion going forward.
Cruise Lines Local company, Cruise and Maritime offer a small range of cruise holidays on their range of small and older cruise ships which are perfect for those who enjoy a more traditional cruise holiday. If you are looking for a more luxurious cruise getaway, Portsmouth can be a good option as most luxury lines operating in Northern Europe stop from time to time in the port. Those who use the port include Saga, Ponant, Phoenix Reisen and Viking Ocean. Destinations There are only a limited number of destinations offered from Portsmouth with cruises around the British Isles amongst the most popular. Other destinations include Norway and the Norwegian Fjords, the Baltics and Northern Europe. Location The port is located just outside of the city centre of Portsmouth in the naval Dockyards. Due to the number of ferry services operating out of Portsmouth, the terminal is easy to find. Terminals Cruise passengers share the ports ferry terminal which is one of the larger and most modern in the country so you get a good range of facilities including a café. Parking There is ample parking at the port. Transport The ferry terminal is well sign posted from major roads in the city of Portsmouth and is easily reached from the motorway network. For those arriving via rail or coach services, it is around a 10-15 minute taxi ride.
