Top 10 Adults Only Cruise Lines
The majority of cruise lines will offer areas of the ship that are for adults only including bars, restaurants and swimming pool areas, but some take it to the never level and have either ships that are adult only or even full fleets of ships that are adult only.
These can make for a great option for those who want a more relaxed holiday, who are looking for some fun without having to worry about kids or for those who are celebrating an anniversary with a loved one.
The thought of an adults only cruise may make you think of older ships, with little to do on them and a floating retirement home feeling but whilst their certainty can be that element to things, some lines target the 18-50 market, some are for the young at heart and some offer a luxury for the masses style.
No matter why you want to get away from the kids, this is the list for you as we take you through what I believe to be the top 10 cruse lines for adult only cruises.
Our Top 10 Adults Only Cruise Lines

Virgin Voyages
Virgin Voyages are a relatively new line who have brought the ‘Virgin’ style to cruising across their adults only fleet of ships.
The line targets a younger crowd and people who don’t usually cruise and with it been a Virgin brand, expect no luxuries and budget Ikea style furnishing but with a high cruise cost.
The line also isn’t for those who want a quiet getaway from the kids as their upbeat and high-energy atmosphere is all about adults letting down their hair on a booze cruise to remember (for either good or bad reasons depending on your outlook).
Virgin Voyages are one of the most polarising lines out there but if they fit your style of holidaying, they are a great option for those wanting short cruises in the Med or the Caribbean.

Viking Ocean Cruises
Viking have made the move from river cruising to ocean cruise specialist with consummate ease as they bring the same Nordic style to the high seas.
Their fleet of medium sized ships, which can host just under 1000 passengers, has steadily grown from its initial start with the Viking Star and after adding a new ship every year since, they have a decent size fleet that offer sailings across Europe, Africa, North America, the Caribbean, South America, Asia and Oceania.
That basically means if there is somewhere you want to explore, the chances are that you will be able to with the line who are known for their high-quality furnishings , onboard enrichment and for having a more relaxed onboard ambience.

Marella Cruises
Although Marella don’t offer a fleet wide adult only experience, they do offer an adult only ship, currently the Marella Explora 2, that works similar to an all-inclusive resort holiday.
That is not too surprising as the line are a joint-venture between the holiday giants of Tui and the cruising giants of Royal Caribbean.
A cruise with Marella is a great option for those who want to not have to think about to much as they offer a true all-inclusive offer starting with flights and transfers and then drinks and tips once onboard.
Whilst there is definitely a British focus to their offer, their relaxed cruise style and all-inclusive nature due make them popular for many looking to cruise who haven’t perhaps cruised before.

P&O Cruises
P&O will be well known to many, but they are a line who have lost their way over the last decade or so as they have made the move from upmarket traditional cruise line to mass-market resort style cruising.
That has brought in a whole new clientele and has seen more families choose to cruise with them but if you still want a slower pace of cruising and some peace and quiet, the line does offer adult only ships.
The Arcadia and Aurora are smaller and older ships, but they still offer all of what many expect from the line including ballroom dancing, formal nights and a slower pace of cruising and interestingly, these ships also tend to offer some of the best itineraries, with the Arcadia especially traversing the globe.
If you want a ‘British’ holiday whilst travelling abroad, they are a good option for you and with a heavy focus of sailing from the port of Southampton, they are a good option for those living in Britain or mainland Europe.

Saga Cruises
Saga Cruises maybe one of the first adults only cruise lines that come to mind, but they take it one step further and promote themselves as been for over 50’s only.
There are of course plenty of caveats to that including been able to cruise at 40+ if you are a guest and they have broken their own rules many times for different reasons.
With all of that said, it does lead to a older cliental onboard their ships and more slower pace of cruising, so if that is what you after they could be one to look at.

Ambassador Cruise Line
The Ambassador Cruise Line are a relatively small, British based line that offer adult only cruising to popular destinations in Europe- although they do sometimes offer multi-generational cruising during school holidays when kids ar e welcomed onboard.
One of the great advantages of the line is that they offer the chance to cruise from many ports that others just don’t offer including the likes of Liverpool, Dundee, Newcastle, Tilbury and Bristol.
If you live in the UK, that means you can take a cruise from a nearby cruise port but that is countered by a limited itinerary range and having to sail on older and smaller ships that often come with a price to match bigger, newer ships where you get so much more for your money.

Fred Olsen Cruises
Fred Olsen offers small ship cruising from the UK with a more traditional style and whilst they have a few different ships to choose from, there Borealis cruise ship is for adults only.
That makes them a great option for those wanting a more romantic getaway or who are looking for a chance to relax on holiday as the line are known for a more intimate atmosphere onboard.
Fred Olsen gives you the chance to visit a decent range of locations including popular favourites such as the Med and the Fjords but also more out of the way places such as South America and Azores.

Hapag-Lloyd Cruises
Hapag-Lloyd Cruises are a German based and focussed line who offer smaller cruise ships that offer explorer style itineraries across the globe.
The line has a long history going back to the heyday of the great ocean lines and are part of a huge commercial shipping line, so you are safe in the knowledge that they are a line with one of the most experience in the world.
Although, the majority of their ships do cater more towards adults, only their Hanseatic Spirit ship is adults only after launching in 2021.

APT Ocean
APT Ocean offer luxury small ship cruising that offers high crew-to-guest rations, port intensive itineraries and they are adults only.
They offer sailings across popular regions of Europe, including the Adriatic Sea, the Greek Islands and the Med and whilst they are certainly not for those who want an all-action getaway, if you want high quality food and the feel of exploring on your own luxury yacht, this premium line could be one to check out.
Cruise Charters
So, this one doesn’t exactly fit perfectly into the parameters of this list, it is something to keep in mind as many cruise lines, including some of the biggest ones such as Royal Caribbean and Norwegian Cruise Lines, allow organisations to hire their ships.
They then resell holidays on them, usually with a theme such as a music event, a sporting event or for a hobby but one thing about these charter’s is that many of them are adult only, so if you have an interest in the theme, it could be a great way to sail in an adult only environment but onboard a massive resort style ship.
