If you are on the side of loving seadays our top things to avoid list will help you make them even better whilst if you are on the side of hating them, these top tips may make your next sea day much better and who knows, you may even look forward to them!
This list is in no particular order with our top tip been to take advantage of them all.
Our Top 10 Things To Avoid On Cruise Seadays
Forgetting Your Budget
When we go on holiday, we all have to work to a budget and whilst some of us will plan it down to the last £, some will simply have a rough idea in mind and stick to that.
When on shore it can be relatively simple to stick to a budget as you are using another currency and that makes you think about how much something costs.
Onboard, it is different as you don’t even need to use cash or your credit card as everything is billed to your onboard account.
If you don’t have a drinks package, simply relaxing in a lounge can get expensive quickly and the likes of the casino and onboard activities are always a draw on sea days.
Staying In Bed
It can be tempting to take advantage of not having to get up early for a day of exploring by staying up late the night before, having a drink or 2 too many and then staying in bed until its time for another night of fun.
Unfortunately that means you miss out on lots of great stuff happening around the ship, which is of course something you have spent a lot of money to enjoy, so whilst a lie in and a relaxing start to a day is all part of a holiday, don’t miss out on sea day fun.
Doing Too Much On Day One
Whilst it does change from one itinerary to the next and it does depend on the length of your cruise as to just how many sea days you will have, the majority of cruises will have more than one day at sea.
Despite that, it can be difficult to not get carried away and try and do all that we want to do onboard the ship during the first seaday but that can make everything feel rushed.
To enjoy everything and still have a relaxing holiday, make sure you spread out all of the activities you want to enjoy over all of the days at sea you have.
Not Taking In The Views
With entertainment and activities taking place all day long throughout the ship and with many lounges, bars, cafes, and restaurant all seeming alluring, cruisers can easily spend all day inside but then you miss out on the great sea views that you can only really experience onboard a cruise ship.
Not Checking Your Planner
The majority of cruise lines, if not all lines, will offer some sort of cruise planner that allows you to see what is happening onboard your ship and both when and where it takes place.
Your days at sea can go at your own pace, so we always recommend looking over your planner the night before or first thing in the morning of a sea day to see what’s on offer and to make a note of the things you would like to do.
Over Planning
With that said, make sure that you don’t over plan as with so many activities onboard ships it can quickly be a race to get them all in.
By picking just a few things that you want to do the most, you can still be all set for a fun filled day but you will also have time to relax and see what else comes along.
Under Planning
On the flip side of that, if you don’t do any planning or limited planning you could not only miss out on something you would have loved to experience or by the time you get to where it is taking place, it may be full.
That can be especially true to the bigger megaships as with so many people onboard, everything is limited, with the most popular activities and attractions always seeing more people wanting to enjoy than can do.
Buffet Crush
No matter if you are lounging around the pool and want a quick bite before heading back to your lounger, you are wanting a speedy lunch before heading to a live show or you simply want to have a quick breakfast before enjoying all that your ships has to offer- the buffet is the place to be on a seaday.
Unfortunately, that leads to the buffet been busy all day long especially between 8-10am for breakfast, 12-2 for lunch and 6-8 for dinner, so if you can, try to avoid the busy hours.
There is always the option of heading into the main dining rooms for meals on a sea day, which tend to be quieter and you often have more time to spare anyway.
Avoid Rush Hour At The Gym
The gym is the go to place for many people on a sea day and that can lead to it getting incredibly busy throughout the day, so if you also want to burn off some cruise calories whilst at sea, we recommend going early morning or early evening.
Over Indulging
One of the great things about cruising is that there is great food to be enjoyed 24 hours a day and so much of it is included in the cost of your holiday.
Unfortunately, on a sea day the temptation is to keep eating and whilst there is nothing wrong with eating more than you would do at home, you are on holiday of course, don’t do it to the point you feel unwell or are too full to take part in activities.
The same can be said for those with a drinks package as you don’t want to drink too much alcohol just because it is there as not only can you ruin your own holiday, but you can ruin things for your fellow guests.
