Hello and welcome to our blog for our recent trip to the beautiful Norwegian fjords onboard the incredible Celebrity Silhouette

Arrival Port: Southampton (City Terminal)
Sea Days: 2
Date: May 2022
Length: 7 Nights
Line: Celebrity
Ship: Silhouette
In May 2022, we set sail from Southampton for a 7 night getaway onboard the beautiful Celebrity Silhouette where we visited the ports of Alesund, Olden, Bergen and Stavanger whilst enjoying sailing along the stunning Norwegian coast and down beautiful fjords.
Although this is a region we have visited before, it is somewhere that remains stunningly beautiful no matter how many times you visit and aside from Stavanger, these were all new ports for us.
The Celebrity Silhouette was also a new ship for us, as was the Celebrity line as a whole but it certainly won’t be the last time we cruise on the ship and our next cruise with Celebrity is already booked.
We started our cruise from the City Terminal at the port of Southampton, which is a favourite of ours as you get to park right outside the terminal entrance and you don’t need to use a valet service.
From arriving a dock gate 10 to walking into our cabin, it took under 30 minutes, which is the fastest we have ever boarded a ship!
After a day at sea crossing the North Sea, we arrive in the city of Bergen which was our first port of call.
Bergen is one of the largest cities in Norway, so there is lots on offer for tourists to enjoy with a trip up the Floibanen Funicular a must do and that was exactly what we did do.
Our next port was Alesund, which was the most northern port we called into so it was perhaps not too surprising that we were greeted by heavy rain and strong winds.
Thankfully, that gave way and most of our time on shore saw blue sky and allowed us to enjoy the great views on offer from hiking up to the Aksla viewpoint.
We then headed south to sail along the beautiful Nordfjorden, into the Innvikfjorden and to the small village of Olden.
We headed to the nearby Loen, where we took the Skylift to the top of Mount Hoven to not only take in the incredible views but to explore the snow topped mountain.
Our next port was sadly our last, but we knew we were in for a great day as this was our second visit to Stavanger.
One reason we like it is because you dock right in the heart of the city centre but we headed out of the town centre to visit the Sverd I fjell (Sword in the Rocks), which is just a short bus ride away.
After another day at sea we arrived back at City Cruise Terminal in Southampton and once again we must simply credit Celebrity as we had not only one of the most organised disembarkations from a cruise ship, but one of the fastest.
We had plenty of time to grab some breakfast and it only took around 15 minutes to leave the ship, grabs our cases, load up our car and get back under way on the long journey home.
Our home away from home for this cruise was the beautiful Celebrity Silhouette, a Solstice class ship, that first set sail in July 2011.
Not long before we got onboard, she underwent a full ‘rejuvenation’ and from the footage of her before the upgrade, we can only say that Celebrity got it right throughout.
The ship was around 85% full but we never really struggled to do what we wanted or to get a seat in busy spots such as the buffet or the theatre but it could be difficult to find a spot in the tea room/coffee shop.
This was our first ever cruise with the line and we impressed throughout as they have everything we love line including constant entertainment/musicians around the ship, great food and lots places to relax.
For this cruise we had a veranda room (balcony room) on the 7th floor and just like so much of the ship, there was little to complain about.
The room was spacious with a huge and comfortable bed, there was lots of storage throughout and the bathroom was not only one of the biggest we had but the shower also came with a glass door.
The biggest issue we had was a lack of power outlets and especially usb ports.
This was our first cruise for some time, due to obvious reasons, and thankfully we have nothing but positives to say about it.
We had a great time in every port and nothing but good time and great food onboard, which is all you can want from a cruise holiday.
